The wide variety of habitats are, perhaps, the single most important aspect of the Reserve. The Reserve contains semi-natural woodland, heathland, flower-rich grassland, streams, ponds, a lake, willow and alder carr coniferous woodlands and wet meadows all within what is a relatively small area.
The list of species using the Reserve is equally long and diverse and is being added to regularly as more and more work is done on monitoring and habitat management.
Whilst the reserve has some notable species such as Pepper Saxifrage, Great Crested Newts and Turtle Dove, the strength of the Reserve comes from its strong populations of typical species associated with its habitats.
