Photographs taken of this bee were sent to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust for confirmation of identification. It has only recently arrived in theCounty, in August 2011.
Several nests have been found and identification confirmed. Eco Club children were told to release any very close to where they had been collected as the ants are unable to find their way home from a distance.

The Alder Woodwasp, Xiphydrya camellus, is not a very common species. It’s a wood borer in alder, usually trees that are rather stressed, or in dead alder wood. This one landed on a volunteer’s leg at lunch time!
