Nesting Box Updates

Birds are beginning to settle into the bird boxes around the reserve and just outside the Field Centre. As featured in the picture below, there is currently a small blue tit who has made a nest for herself in one of the boxes outside the Field Centre. A small sign has been put on the lid of this particular box, and we kindly ask that you please be mindful of our bird boxes and that any excess noise can be quite distressing for them.

As always, we remain committed to monitoring the birds that inhabit the reserve. One of our volunteers, Lesley, checked the small nest boxes around the reserve and has applied rings to a total of 65 chicks. This number is made up of 25 Blue Tits, 17 Great Tits, and 23 Coal Tits. She says, “The broods are very healthy and will most likely fledge within a week.” which is very exciting news!

We thank you for your continued co-operation.
